GAME ONE
In the opener, the Fighting Scots scored three runs in the first inning highlighted by junior Geoffrey Brown’s (E. Moriches, N.Y.) two-RBI single to center. Gordon took a 4-0 lead after it scored its last run of the game in the third after junior Brian Harrington (Shoreham, N.Y.) drove home freshman Jacob Syed (Niskayuna, N.Y.) with a single to left.
The Colonels cut the deficit to two (4-2) in the fourth after scoring a run on an error, followed by a sacrifice fly. Curry scored with two outs in the seventh after senior Matt Drew (Waltham, Mass.) drove home sophomore Kyle Connors (Stoughton, Mass.). The Fighting Scots then put junior Ben Davidson (Sterling, Mass.) on the mound and he recorded the final out.
Harrington picked up the win in relief, allowing one unearned run in 2 2/3 innings of work. Davidson recorded his first save on the season. Senior Joe Carrig (Irvine, Calif.) went two innings on the mound, giving up four earned runs in falling to 0-3.
GAME TWO
In the nightcap, both teams put two runs up on the board in the first inning. Gordon senior Eric Wolak (Trumbull, Conn.) drove home Davidson with a triple to left, and then crossed the plate on a passed ball. In the bottom of the frame, Drew recorded two RBI on a single to center.
These would be the only runs for the Fighting Scots, as the hosts went on to score nine unanswered runs.
In the fourth, Drew stole home to give the Colonels a 3-2 lead. In the following inning, Curry scored four runs, highlighted by junior Sam Barron’s (Florence, Mass.) two-RBI triple to center. Senior Carlos Cornejo (Lake Forest, Calif.) recorded two RBIs in the fifth with a single to center to score junior Shayne McDonald (Cambridge, Mass.) and Connors. McDonald brought home the Colonels’ final run of the game with a sacrifice fly in the sixth.
Freshman Thomas Fitzpatrick (South Boston, Mass.) went six strong innings, giving up three hits and one earned run, while striking out six to improve to 1-3 on the season. For Gordon, sophomore Ryan Reinsel (Hudson, Ohio) went three innings, falling to 0-3 after giving up three earned runs.
Curry resumes play on Sunday, traveling to Dudley, Mass. for a conference doubleheader with Nichols College beginning at 12:00 p.m. The Fighting Scots return to action on Tuesday, hosting Emerson in Wenham, Mass. in a single non-conference game beginning at 3:00 p.m.
