Former Colonels' Standout Hawn Signs Professional Baseball Contract

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – On June 16, former Curry College standout catcher Brad Hawn signed a professional baseball contract with the Las Cruces Vaqueros of the independent Pecos League. The Pecos League is headquartered in Houston, Texas and operates in cities throughout West Texas and Eastern New Mexico. Pecos teams play in cities that do not have Major or Minor League Baseball teams and is not affiliated with either. Through four games with Las Cruces, Hawn is batting .400 (2 for 5) with one run scored.

At Curry, he was a starter in all four seasons after transferring from Mt. San Antonio College (Walnut, California) in 2008. As a senior, Hawn started in all 41 games for the Colonels, batting .341 (45 for 132) with two home runs, 18 runs batted in, and 32 runs scored. Defensively, he committed just three errors in 230 total chances for a .987 fielding percentage. For the third year in a row, Hawn was named as a First Team All-Star in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC).

His most productive offensive season came as a junior in 2010, when he hit .423 (66 for 156) with 40 runs batted in and 45 runs scored in 42 games, and was named as ECAC Division III New England Championship Game Most Outstanding Player.

The 2007 graduate of Mater Dei High School is from Chino Hills, California, and is the son of Bradley and Theresa Hawn. He graduated from Curry in May with a degree in Criminal Justice.
