Baseball Falls to Suffolk, 11-7, in Spring Break Finale
WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Suffolk University topped Curry College, 11-7,  on Thursday morning at the RussMatt College Baseball Invitational in Winter Haven, Fla. The Rams improved to 5-2 while the Colonels slipped to 4-5 after playing their final Spring Break game. (Box Score)

Curry jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first. Senior Sean Jackman led the game off with a single that was followed by a walk to senior Brad Hawn. Sophomore Matt Rodriguez would single to load the bases before classmate Sam Barron drove in the first two runs of the game with a single.

The Rams would answer in the third as senior Mark Annese laced a double down the third base line and then came around to score on a fielder’s choice.

Curry jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the bottom half of the inning as Hawn started the inning off with a walk and came around to score on a Rodriguez double. Rodriguez came around to score later in the inning on a passed ball.

Suffolk took the lead for good however during a five-run sixth inning in which they batted around. Sophomore Remy Carpinito would get the inning going coming off the bench as a pinch-hitter as he doubled to center. Senior Mark Addesa would drive in Carpinito for the Rams’ first run of the inning with a single. Sophomore Chris Stanley would add a single to left field to load the bases and set the table for freshman Devan Jones who delivered the big blow, a grand slam, and his second home run in as many days.

Addesa would drive in another Suffolk run in the seventh inning with a double, and the Rams would add some insurance in the eighth with two more runs highlighted by an RBI single by Annese, who finished the day knocking in three runs.

Addesa was 4-for-6 on the day, with two RBI as the Rams pounded out 19 hits as a team. Jones and Annese had three hits each, while Stanley, Carpinito and freshman Jake Cintolo all chipped in with a pair of hits.

Senior Alex Torres picked up his first win of the season on the mound going six innings allowing four earned runs on six hits, while striking out six. Sophomore Matt Sliney earned his first career collegiate save pitching the final three frames fanning five Colonels hitters.

Barron led the Colonels with a 3-for-5 day with 3 RBI, while Rodriguez was also 3-for-5 with a run batted in. (Game recap courtesy of Suffolk Sports Information)
