Baseball Knocked Off By Keene State 10-7 in Non-Conference Action
BROCKTON, Mass. - Keene State scored all 10 of its runs over two innings, then held off host Curry, 10-7, in non-conference baseball action Monday afternoon at Campanelli Stadium in Brockton. The Owls upped their record to 10-8, while the Colonels fell to 12-7.

Keene State put together a two-out, four-run rally in the top of the second off Curry starter Chris Costa (Lynnfield, Mass.). The Owls got RBI singles from seniors Keith Patnode (Keene, N.H.) and Jesse Cahill (Cranston, R.I.), and had two more runs cross the plate on a dropped fly ball in centerfield off the bat of junior Bobby Doyon (Keene, N.H.).

The Colonels briefly took the lead with five runs in their half of the second. A pair of walks off starter Dan Nelson (Glastonbury, Conn.) were followed by an RBI double from junior Ben Blaisdell (Mansfield, Mass.), and RBI infield single from junior Sean Jackman (Stoughton, Mass.), and RBI fielder's choice from junior Carlos Cornejo (Lake Forest, Calif.) and a two-RBI double from senior Jesse Bruinsma (Lynnfield, Mass.).

In the top of the 3rd, the visitors got to Costa for six more runs, highlighted by a two-run single from sophomore Kyle Morrill (Auburn, N.H.) and a two-run double from Doyon. After the offensive outburst in consecutive innings, Keene State led 10-5.

Costa and two Curry relievers then combined to shut down the Owls' hitters over the final six frames. But the Colonels could only muster a single run in the fourth, and another in the eighth on a Bruinsma solo home run.

Nelson improved to 3-0 on the season, allowing seven hits, five walks and four earned runs over 5 1/3 innings. He also struck out four batters. Costa settled down after his two rocky innings, going 6 1/3 innings and allowing 11 hits, five walks and eight earned runs. He also struck out three.

Curry returns to action on Tuesday, traveling to Johnson & Wales for a 3:30 p.m. contest. Keene State returns home to play Amherst College on the same day and time.
