Three Colonels Earn CCC Weekly Honors

BIDDEFORD, Maine - Curry College student-athletes representing three team teams received weekly awards from the Commonwealth Coast Conference on Monday afternoon.

Sophomore Avia Fraine (Mattapoisett, Mass.) was named the CCC Women's Volleyball Libero of the Week, freshman Stella Schofield (Marshfield, Mass.) the CCC Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week, and freshman Cameron Cruz (Bristol, Conn.) the CCC Football Defensive Player and Defensive Rookie of the Week.

Fraine was the defensive backbone of the Colonels last week, averaging 4.40 digs per set as her team went 2-1 to improve to 5-1. Fraine hit double figures in digs in two of the three matches, including her second 20+ dig performance of the season on Saturday against Fisher.

Schofield looked sharp between the pipes for Curry this week, averaging seven saves per game in a 1-1 week. Schofield picked up her first collegiate shutout with three saves in a victory over Simmons on Wednesday, before making 11 saves in a tough-luck loss to Clark on Saturday.

Cruz shined defensively for Curry over the weekend, lifting his team to a huge non-conference victory over Coast Guard. The freshman led the Colonels with nine tackles in the win, seven of which of the solo variety. Cruz also picked off a pair of passes, returning one 20 yards for what would prove to be the game-winning touchdown.

It was the first career CCC weekly award for each of the honorees.
