Women’s Volleyball Swept in Tri-Match

FITCHBURG, Mass. - Curry College was defeated in both games of a tri-match against Fitchburg State and Southern Maine University on Saturday afternoon at the Fitchburg State Recreation Center.

With today's matches, the Colonels fall to an overall record of 1-16 on the season while remaining 0-3 in Conference of New England play

GAME ONE: Fitchburg 3, Curry 1 (25-22, 19-25, 25-15, 25-16)

After dropping a close first set, the Colonels bounced back in the second, battling back from an early deficit to tie the set at 12-12. An 8-1 scoring run that included four service aces by Jasmyne Fillippini (Plymouth, Mass.) set the Colonels up with a comfortable set lead of 20-13, allowing Curry to tie the match at 1-1.

Meghan Abbott (Plymouth, Mass.) led all players with 10 kills while Sonja Matheson (Voluntown, Conn.) had a game-high 16 digs. Abby Sousa (Seekonk, Mass.) was another statistical leader with 16 assists.

GAME TWO: Southern Maine 3, Curry 0 (25-8, 25-18, 25-16)

Kyah Earls (San Francisco, Calif.) led the Colonels with seven kills while also accruing seven digs. Fillippini was the dig leader with a team eight while Emma St. Cyr (Dover, N.H.) dished out a team leading 11 assists.

Curry College returns to action with a home game against Keene State on Wednesday, October 16th, beginning at 6 p.m.
