MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College women's volleyball team rolled to a 3-0 victory over Albertus Magnus College Thursday evening in non-conference action at the Dr. Eleanor Meyerhoff Katz Gymnasium. Set scores were 25-17, 25-13, 25-18.
With the win, Curry improves to 11-12 overall on the season.
Before the match, Curry celebrated the careers of the six members of its women's volleyball program's senior class. Amanda Anderson (Hanson, Mass.), Rachel Damstra (Houston, Texas), Faith Herity (River Edge, N.J.), Rebecca Johnson (St. Petersburg, Fla.), Amanda Wood (Tokyo, Japan), and Lexi Pereira (Attleboro, Mass.) were joined on the court by their friends and families prior to their final regular season match at Katz Gym.
Curry used five first-set kills from Pereira to claim the early 1-0 advantage. The senior also notched four digs and four service aces in the set, both which led the Colonels. Wood recorded three kills of her own in the set.
The Colonels continued to control the match in set two with a convincing 25-13 victory. Libero Amber Buttaro (Tewksbury, Mass.) notched seven of Curry's 13 digs in the set to pace the defense, while Pereira picked up three more kills and three more service aces.
Albertus Magnus jumped out to an early 6-1 lead in the third set, but the Colonels rallied all the way back to secure the victory. Junior Lauren Guzman (Cranston, R.I.) led all players with five kills in the set, while libero Lexie Jenkins (Burns, Wyo.) notched seven digs.
Pereira finished her Senior Night with a match-high eight kills to go along with seven service aces and six digs. Buttaro set a career-high with 10 digs to lead the Colonels.
Curry will be back in action on Saturday afternoon for a Commonwealth Coast Conference matchup against Endicott College. First serve is set for 3 p.m.
