Springfield, MA - The Curry Women's Tennis team won their second straight match on Tuesday, defeating CNE foe Western New England 5-2. With the win, the Colonels move to 2-5 on the season, and 1-1 in CNE play. The Golden Bears are now 2-1 and 0-1.
The Colonels got ahead early, grabbing the double's point with wins by the teams of Ella Hurley and Serena Wilson (6-4) and Grace Coopee and Cayla Osowski (7-5).
The singles matches saw plenty of close matches, with four of the six matches needing a third set. The two teams split those four matches, with Serena Wilson (6-4, 5-7, 6-1) and Sam Ferrara (6-2, 4-6, 6-2) picking up the wins for the Colonels. Grace Coopee (6-4, 6-3) and Cayla Osowski (6-1, 6-4) each won their single's matches in straight sets, clinching the Colonels win.
The win breaks a nine-match losing streak to WNE, with the Colonels last win against the Golden Bears coming in 2013. This also marks the first time the Colonels have won consecutive matches since 2013.
Up Next - The Colonels will look to keep the winning going on Saturday when they host Roger Williams at 12pm.
