Women's Tennis Falls to Gordon

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's tennis team was swept by Gordon College, 7-0, on Wednesday afternoon at the Trent J. Scott '96 Tennis Courts. The Fighting Scots won all but one set in the victory.

Gordon got off to a strong start in doubles play. The top duo of junior Jordyn Maddex (Andover, Kan.) and freshman Annette Kim (Andover, Mass.) defeated freshman Alexandra Borkov (Newton, Mass.) and sophomore Sophia Wiernusz (Collegeville, Pa.), 8-0, in first doubles while junior Madison West (Southampton, Mass.) and freshman Kristin Kendall (Cumberland, Maine) took the No. 2 doubles point by an identical score over junior Kayla Connors (Brockton, Mass.) and senior Kelsie Merrill (Hope, Maine).

The Fighting Scots carried the momentum in singles play as Kim and West won by 6-1, 6-0 finals at No. 2 and No. 3 spots, respectively.

The most competitive singles match of the day came at the top spot where Maddex and Borkov split sets. Borkov took the first 6-4 before Maddex rallied back for a 7-5 win in the second. In lieu of a third set the two played a 10-point tiebreaker that saw Maddex come out on top by a 11-9 margin.

Curry (1-2 overall) will next play at Gordon College on Saturday, April 10 at 11:00 a.m.
