Women’s Tennis Continues Spring Break Trip in Florida

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Curry College women's tennis team lost a 9-0 contest to Brevard College on Tuesday morning. The match was played at the Lake Cane Tennis Center in Orlando, Fla. as both teams continue their respective Spring Break trips. With the win, the Tornadoes improve to 4-4 on the 2019-20 season, while the Colonels sit at 0-18.

The Tornadoes swept doubles play to start the action. At first doubles, Samantha Sepe (Niceville, Fla.) and Lily Farr (Sante Fe, N.M.) beat Sophia Wiernusz (Collegeville, Pa.) and Alison Daigle (Edgartown, Mass.) by a score of 8-2. The Tornadoes took second and third doubles by default.

During singles play, Brevard continued to control the momentum. At first, Alli Kogoy (Canton, Ga.) downed Wiernusz 6-2, 6-4. At second, Jen Cox (West Islip, N.Y.) defeated Daigle 6-0, 6-3. Brooke Garland (Canton, N.C.) came out victorious at third over Kayla Connors (Brockton, Mass.), 6-4, 6-2. The Tornadoes completed the sweep by taking fourth, fifth, and sixth singles by default.

The Colonels will get back on the court on Thursday, March 12, for a match against Illinois Wesleyan, remaining in Florida for their final contest of the 2019-20 season. The Tornadoes will also resume play in Orlando on Thursday, taking on St. Francis (Ind.) at 12:00 p.m. before a 7:00 p.m. tilt against Marywood.
