Women's Tennis Captures 8-1 Win Over Western New England

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--Visiting Curry College swept three doubles matches and won five of six singles to earn an 8-1 Commonwealth Coast Conference women's tennis victory over Western New England University at the Volvo Outdoor Courts on Saturday. The Colonels, who will be the No. 4 seed in the upcoming CCC Championship Tournament, improve to 8-5 overall and 5-3 in the conference, while the Golden Bears conclude their fall season at 4-9 and 1-7.

The duos of Emily Mongello and Lauren Chuha, Kimberly Love and Megan Mulrooney and Elizabeth Zarkades and Devin Curley were double winners for the Colonels. Mongello/Chuha knocked off their opponents, 8-6. Love/Mulrooney won 8-4 and Zarkades/Curley, 8-3.

Freshman Caleigh Curran picked up the Golden Bears' lone point with a win at No. 1 singles over Mulrooney, who retired due to injury after losing the first set 7-5 and was trailing 4-1 in the second. The Colonels went on to win the next five matches. Mongello, Molly Louis, Chuha, Love and Kayla Prete all earned points for Curry.

The No. 4 seeded Curry College Colonels will host the No. 5 seeded Fighting Scots of Gordon College in the Commonwealth Coast Conference Quarterfinals on Tuesday, October 8 at 2:00 p.m.
