Women’s Soccer Battles Strong Roger Williams Team to Scoreless Draw
MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's soccer team delivered one of its strongest performances of the season on Wednesday night, battling regionally ranked Roger Williams University to a 0-0 draw in Conference of New England (CNE) action at Walter M. Katz Field. The tie moves the Colonels to 4-6-4 overall (1-3-3 CNE), while the Hawks remain unbeaten in conference play at 9-1-4 (4-0-2 CNE).
From the opening whistle, the Colonels set the tone with organized defense and crisp ball movement, matching the Hawks' pace and physicality throughout the first half. Senior goalkeeper Lexi Smardon anchored the backline with an outstanding performance, stopping all six shots on goal to earn her fourth shutout of the season. Her poise under pressure proved crucial, especially as Roger Williams generated multiple chances late in the match.
Curry's offensive effort was highlighted by forward Mia Schena, who registered four shots, three on target, and created several scoring opportunities in transition. Catia Fernandes also added two shots on goal, while Jovi Goldstein and Sarah Crusse contributed to a balanced attack that tested the Hawks' backline. Despite 12 total shots, the Colonels couldn't find the finishing touch to break through.
Smardon's clutch saves in the final minutes, including a stop off a close-range header, preserved the draw before a lively home crowd. With the result, Curry secures a valuable conference point and extends its unbeaten streak to two matches.
The Colonels will be back again on Katz Field Friday afternoon as they host Maine Fort-Kent in a non-conference matchup for Senior Night.
