Women's Soccer Defeat Seahawks in Season Opener

Milton, MA - The Curry Women's Soccer team opened their season with a 1-0 win over former conference foe Salve Regina. The Colonels are now 3-0-1 in their last four season openers.

After a slow first half that saw the two teams combine for just one shot on goal, the Colonels struck early in the second half. Jovi Goldstein and Mia Schena found themselves with a two on one, and after a pass from Schena put Goldstein past the defender, Goldstein pocketed the ball into the lower right corner, past the goalie. It was Goldstein's first goal of the season, after scoring twice last season. The Colonels were able to hold onto the lead, and goalie Lexi Smardon made two saves in the final five minutes of the game to preserve the win.

Coming into the game at halftime, Smardon made four saves to pick up the win. Starter Hannah Correa made one save in the first half. Salve Regina outshot the Colonels 11-7, and 5-2 in SOG, while also holding the 8-2 corner kicks advantage. But the Colonels held the advantage in the only category that matters, winning 1-0.

Up Next - The Colonels will return to action next Wednesday, when they travel to Mass. Maritime for a 7pm game.
