Women's Soccer Shuts Down Nichols

DUDLEY, Mass. - The Curry College women's soccer team defeated Nichols College 4-0 in Commonwealth Coast Conference action Saturday evening at Vendetti Field.

With the victory, Curry improves to 2-4-4 overall on the season, and earns its first conference victory, improving to 1-2-0.

The first collegiate goal from freshman Abby Corcoran (Newington, Conn.) opened the scoring less than two minutes into the contest, putting the Colonels ahead 1-0 on an assist from senior Shannon Folan (Hudson, Mass.).

The Colonels increased their lead to two in the 22nd minute. After a misplay by the Nichols netminder, senior Maddie Resendes (Coventry, R.I.) capitalized for an unassisted marker to put the Colonels ahead by a pair.

Just under six minutes later, Curry took a commanding 3-0 lead when senior Madison Frye (Abington, Mass.) poked a Sydney Resendes (Coventry, R.I.) pass past the Nichols goalkeeper to put the Curry on top by three.

Frye looped home an insurance marker from distance in the 74th minute to seal the win for the Colonels. Rookie Mia Schena (Nahant, Mass.) tallied an assist on the play.

In net, sophomore Lexi Smardon (Scotland, Conn.) earned the shutout with a three-save effort.

Curry will return to action on Tuesday, traveling to Fitchburg State University for a non-conference contest at 7 p.m.
