Women's Soccer Edged Out by Western New England

SPRINGFIELD, Mass - Curry College was defeated 2-1 by Western New England University Saturday afternoon in a Commonwealth Coast Conference women's soccer game at Suprenant Fields.

Trailing by one, the Colonels scored their only goal of the game just 1:32 seconds into the second half to tie the game at 1-1. The goal was scored by freshman Catia Fernandes (Acushnet, Mass.) She was assisted on the play by Madison Frye (Abington, Mass.)

Lexi Smardon (Scotland, Conn.) played the entire game in net for the Colonels, making five saves in the loss.

Curry took a total of 10 shots with five being on target. The Colonels also took five corners throughout the game compared to only four for the visitors.

Curry College (1-3-2, 0-1-0 CCC) returns to action on Tuesday (9/19) to host UMass Boston at Walter M. Katz Field. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m.
