Women’s Soccer Season Opener Ends in a Draw

NEWPORT, R.I. - Curry College opened up the 2023 season with a 1-1 draw against Salve Regina Friday afternoon in a non-conference collegiate women's soccer matchup at Reynolds Field.

Senior midfielder Madison Frye (Abington, Mass.) found the back of the net in the 33rd minute of play to put the Colonels on the board and tie the game at one goal apiece. Frye was assisted on the play by senior forward Maddie Resendes (Coventry, R.I.).

The Seahawks struck first when Olivia Tacconi found Sara Wiejkus, who scored in the second minute of play, giving the home team an early lead.

Curry totaled eight shots-on-goal throughout the contest, while junior goalkeeper Hannah Correa (Carver, Mass.) made five saves in net for the Colonels.

Curry College (0-0-1) returns to action with a road game against Regis College on Sunday (9/30), beginning at 4 p.m.
