Women's Soccer Outlasts Owls

MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College women's soccer team defeated Keene State College 3-2 Monday evening in non-conference action at a rainy Walter M. Katz Field.

With the win, Curry improves to 5-6-0 on the season, while Keene State falls to 3-7-1.

Curry controlled the play in the opening half despite the sloppy conditions, and took a 2-0 lead into the halftime break. Exactly 22 minutes into the contest, sophomore Sydney Resendes (Coventry, R.I.) tallied her second goal of the season off a feed from Madison Frye (Abington, Mass.) to break the ice. In the 39th minute, freshman Kiera Lindmark (Norfolk, Mass.) deposited her second goal of the season off a goal mouth scramble to stretch Curry's lead to two. Shannon Folan (Hudson, Mass.) earned an assist on the tally.

Just 1:38 into the second half, Curry netted what proved to be the game-winning goal when Frye scored her first collegiate goal. Maddie Resendes (Coventry, R.I.) earned an assist on the play.

Keene State refused to go down quietly however, ending the shutout bid for Curry goalkeeper Stella Schofield (Marshfield, Mass.) on a Raelyn Callahan penalty kick goal in the 63rd minute. With the clock winding down, sophomore Rachel Souza scored for the Owls with two seconds showing on the clock, but far too little time was left to find an equalizer as Curry escaped with the victory.

Schofield earned her fourth win of the season for Curry, turning away five Keene State shots. Senior Abbie Terrinca took the loss for the visitors with four saves.

Curry will return to action on Wednesday for a non-conference contest at Mass. Maritime.
