Women's Soccer Shut Out by Wellesley

WELLESLEY, Mass. - The Curry College women's soccer team suffered a 2-0 setback on Saturday morning at the hands of Wellesley College.

With the loss, Curry drops to 1-1 in the young season.

Streaking down the right side of the box was first year Mia Voce (Shoreline, Wash.), who sent in a beautiful pass past the diving Curry goalie. Eliza Roy (Camden, Maine) received the pass and found the back of the net. The goal came at the 6:49 mark in the first half and put the Blue up 1-0.

Late in the second half, sophomore Ella Pierce (Camden, Maine) broke past her defender and headed towards the goal. With Roy open to her left, Pierce finessed a pass through and Roy took care of the rest. It was the first career assist for Pierce and third goal of the season for Roy. The Blue took a commanding 2-0 lead with under 15 minutes to play.

Sophomore Lauren Park (Richmond, Va.) started her first career game in goal, facing two shots and saving both. Park earned her first career win and helped the Blue to a second consecutive shutout. Wellesley outshot the Colonels 19-10, including four shots on goal from Paige Sangston (Greenwich, Conn.)

Colonel goalkeeper Stella Schofield (Marshfield, Mass.) recorded nine saves on 11 shots faced. As a team, Curry College put up just three shots on goal, as the Blue defense controlled the pitch.

Wellesley remains home for a non-conference matchup with Suffolk on Wednesday, September 8 at 4 p.m. Curry will host the Sharks of Simmons University on Wednesday, September 8 at 7 p.m.
