Women's Soccer Tripped Up at Gordon in League Play

WENHAM, Mass. – The Curry College women's soccer team lost a 6-2 decision at Gordon College on Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play at the Brigham Complex.

Senior Lexi Potter (South Glen Falls, N.Y.) netted four goals to lead the Fighting Scots (10-3-3 overall, 4-1-0 CCC). Freshman McKenna Feller (Puyallup, Wash.) and junior Monet Marshall (Redmond, Wash.) also added markers for Gordon, while freshman Calla Ashley (Lancaster, Pa.) paced the home squad by contributing a pair of assists.

The Colonels (6-10-0 overall, 1-4-0 CCC) were led by sophomore Maddie Wilson (Millbury, Mass.), who recorded a pair of goals on the day. Junior Tayla Randall (Walpole, Mass.) chipped in with one assist.

Potter put the Fighting Scots ahead in the seventh minute of the contest on an unassisted tally. Gordon then added another in the 30th minute on a goal from Marshall off an assist from Ashley. Potter completed the hat trick with back-to-back markers 34 seconds apart to go up 4-0 heading into the half.

Gordon tacked its final two goals over a six minute span to open the second half. Potter netted her fourth of the day in the 53rd minute off a helper from senior Ashton Barkey (Parker, Colo.). Feller contributed an unassisted goal in the 59th minute to increase the lead to 6-0.

Wilson's first goal came in the 72nd minute, cutting the Fighting Scot lead to 6-1. Wilson then added her second of the game in the 88th minute thanks to an assist by Randall to make the 6-2 final.

Gordon held a 16-12 edge in shots for the match. Senior Kali Denty (Marshfield, Mass.) registered the win in goal, making three saves in 58:33. Senior Giselle Maso (Frisco, Texas) played in the final 31:27 and allowed two goals. Freshmen Oliver Hutchinson (Scituate, Mass.) was credited with the loss, making one save in 17:01. Classmate Lilia Leonard (Quincy, Mass.) played the final 72:59 and converted four saves.

Curry will next play at home against Salve Regina University on Wednesday, October 23 at 4:00 p.m. Gordon will travel to Roger Williams University on Wednesday for a 4:00 p.m. conference match.
