Women's Soccer Blanks Thomas in Non-Conference Play, 1-0

MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College Women's Soccer team took down visiting Thomas College, 1-0, in their home opener at Walter M. Katz Field on Sunday afternoon. With the win the Colonels move to 2-0 on the season while the Terriers drop to 0-2.

Curry controlled play in the first half holding a 10 shot advantage, 12-2.  The Colonels got on the board first, just 8:56 into the contest. Cassandra Grasso (Wilmington, Mass.) was taken down and fouled in the box and was awarded a penalty shot. The senior co-captain put the shot past Thomas keeper Kayla Gordon (Wiscasset, Maine) to put the Colonels up 1-0. The Terriers put two shots on goal on goal late in the first half but both were stopped by Curry keeper Kristen Buzzotta (Lynnfield, Mass.) to keep the contest a 1-0 score going into the half. 

The Colonels continued to control play in the second half, outshooting Thomas 13-1. The Terriers possessed the ball much better in the second half, getting onto the Curry half of the field but they were unable to find the back of the net as the PK from Grasso proved to be the game-winner.

Curry outshot Thomas 25-3 and held the advantage in corners, 8-0.   

Buzzotta earned the shutout and victory in goal for the Colonels with three saves. Gordon made nine stops in net for the Terriers in the loss.

Curry continues its season long three game homestand on Wednesday when they host Wheaton at 6:30 p.m. Thomas returns to action Wednesday when they host Saint Joseph's (Maine) at 7:00 p.m.
