The Curry Women's Soccer Team volunteered at the Jimmy Fund Walk on Sunday September 25th in Boston. The team was a "Cheer Squad" for over 9,000 participants, many of whom walked the Boston Marathon route of 26.2 miles.
"I'm so impressed with my team's attitude, energy and enthusiasm at the walk. They must have exchanged over 2000 high fives with all the walkers that went by us on Commonwealth Ave, hopefully giving them a little extra push to make it to the finish line. We saw so many inspirational people of all ages, including several Curry alumni. It was one of the most rewarding community service projects we've done in my 5 years at Curry."
In addition to being the Cheer Squad at the corner of Commonwealth Ave and Hereford Street, the team also visited Olivia Tassinari's mile marker sign at the finish line.
"The Jimmy Fund Walk is particularly important and has special meaning to me this year" says Coach Tassinari. "To have my team involved in the walk and surround my daughter's picture at the finish line really meant the world to me." Coach Tassinari's 2 month old daughter had surgery to remove a meduloblastoma brain tumor on February 19th, and after 6 months of chemotherapy treatment at Children's Hospital and the Jimmy Fund, is healthy and on the road to recovery.
