Women's Soccer Shut Out at Emmanuel College 4-0 in Non-Conference Action

BOSTON, Mass. – Senior forward Courtney Freadman (Richmond, Mass.) scored two goals to power the Emmanuel College women's soccer team past Curry College, 4-0, Thursday evening in non-conference action at Roberto Clemente Field. It was the third consecutive shutout victory for the Saints who improve to 3-4 on the year while the loss drops the Colonels to 3-3-1 overall.

Emmanuel got off to a quick start as senior midfielder Maggie Carey (Swampscott, Mass.) got the hosts on the board just 3:41 into the game with her team-leading fourth goal of the year. Carey put home a rebound from a shot by sophomore Rachel Beliveau (West Springfield, Mass.) to give EC the 1-0 lead.

Freadman made it 2-0 at the 12:50 marker on a similar play. Beliveau fired a shot on Curry netminder Morgan Stott (Dartmouth, Mass.) who made the initial save before Freadman finished the rebound off for her second goal of the season.

Curry's best goal-scoring opportunity of the night came midway through the opening frame on a direct kick from 25 yards out. Senior Kaitlyn Lima (New Bedford, Mass.) hit a rocket around the EC wall of defenders that was headed for the left side netting but Emmanuel junior goalkeeper Victoria LaRoche (Hudson, N.H.) was there for the save to keep the margin at 2-0.

The Saints outshot the Colonels 10-3 in the opening half while owning a 2-1 advantage on corners.

EC opened the second stanza similar to the first, scoring within the first four minutes to bump the lead to 3-0. This time Beliveau got into the scoring column with her first goal of the year. Senior defender Alison MacDonald (Peabody, Mass.) lofted a ball into the box that found the head of Beliveau for the finish.

Freadman rounded out the scoring with her second goal of the match at 56:12 thanks to a perfect feed from Carey. Carey dribbled down the right side of the field on a semi-breakaway and after drawing coverage from both center backs, slotted a pass to Freadman on the weak side for a tap in finish to account for the 4-0 final.

LaRoche stopped all four shots she saw on goal to hear her second straight shutout in goal. Stott made four saves and was relieved by freshman Kristen Buzzotta (Lynnfield, Mass.) in the second half, making two saves.

The Saints return to action on Saturday afternoon when they play host to Lasell College at 3:00 PM in a rematch of the 2015 GNAC Championship game. Curry also plays on Saturday afternoon when they head to Beverly, Mass. to take on Endicott College at 4:30 PM in CCC action.  (Game Recap Courtesy of Emmanuel Sports Information)
