Colonels Down Blue Jays, 2-0, Improve to 2-0 on the Season

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's soccer team defeated St. Joseph's College (Conn.), 2-0, on Saturday afternoon at the Walter M. Katz Field. With the win, the Colonels improve to 2-0 while the Blue Jays fall to 1-1 on the season.

The Colonels controlled most of the first half, outshooting St. Joseph's 13-4. Curry landed ten of their 13 shots on net forcing freshman goalkeeper Megan Ricci (Center Moriches, NY) to make some tough saves.  Senior goalkeeper Morgan Stott (Dartmouth, Mass.) faced no shots in the first half. Junior midfielder Cassandra Grasso (Wilmington, Mass.) led the Curry offense with four shots. Junior forward Jessica Spezzano (Watertown, Conn.) led the Blue Jays with two shots.

Curry controlled possession to start the second half until senior midfielder Kelly Parker (Bradford, Conn.) would fire a shot from outside the 18-yard box and bury it in the back of the net, with junior Hannah Wells (Whitman, Mass.) on the assist. Four minutes later, senior forward Kaitlyn Lima would fire a shot from just outside the 18-yard box and beat the keeper high to the far side to extend the Colonels lead to 2-0.

The Blue Jays looked to get on the board with 14 minutes left with a 2-1 rush up the field, but Stott stood tall and made a big save on a point-blank shot. St. Joseph's continued to pressure, but the Curry defense tightened up and kept the opposing offense at bay.

Stott was credited with the win, finishing with three saves on three shots. Freshman goalkeeper Hannah Meister was credited with the loss, making five saves on seven shots. Ricci finished with ten saves on ten shots.

The St. Joseph's College Blue Jays return to action Tuesday afternoon when they welcome Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:00 PM.

The Colonels return to the pitch Monday night when they travel to the Terriers of Thomas College. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
