Grasso Nets Hat-Trick as Women's Soccer Downs Johnson State 8-1 in Season Opener

JOHNSON, VT. – The Curry College women's soccer team opened the season with an 8-1 win vs. Johnson State College in a non-conference game on Thursday afternoon at Minaert Field.

Curry starts the 2016 campaign 1-0, while the Badgers fall to 0-1 to begin the season.

SCORING

1ST Half: Curry spread seven goals through the first half, including a hat-trick by Cassandra Grasso. Kaitlyn Lima, Jules Petrucelli, Kelly Parker, and Amanda Crisfulla also chipped in goals for the Colonels.

2nd Half: Briana Stadler (Cornwall, N.Y.) scored the first goal of the season for the Badgers in the 60th minute. On a set piece just outside the box, Maddison Prescott (Topsham, Maine) touched the ball to Stadler, who loaded up and buried the ball past the Curry goalie. Curry tacked on one last goal in the final minutes by Parker to bring the final to 8-1.

GOALKEEPERS

Morgan Scott earned the victory in net, stopping four of five shots. Kaila Lemmer (Barnard, Vt.) was tagged with the loss, allowing seven goals on 23 shots in 45 minutes of action in the first half. Naomi Quad (Morrisville, Vt.) took over for the second half, allowing one goal on ten shots.

NEXT UP

The Colonels return to the pitch Saturday afternoon when they take on the visiting BlueJays of St. Joseph's (Conn.). Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
