Women's Soccer Knocked off 6-0 at Roger Williams in CCC Action

BRISTOL, R.I. - The Roger Williams University Women's Soccer team continued its winning ways Saturday afternoon with a 6-0 win over Curry College Saturday afternoon.

The Hawks played its third annual Hawks For A Cure Pink Game, where the team honored loved ones affected by breast cancer and collected donations for the Roger Williams Cancer Center in Providence. In all, $842 was donated over the course of the afternoon for the Roger Williams Cancer Center.

Roger Williams had its offense in sync early, getting two strong opportunities in the first five minutes the game. Jessica Valenti (North Reading, Mass.) had her shot just glance off of a Colonel defender in the second minute. Then a minute later, she went up for a header off of a Jenna Hart (Cheshire, Conn.) cross, but sent it just high over the net.

The Hawks managed to get ten shots up against the Colonels before they were able to get on the board. In the 29th minute, Kristen Casey (East Longmeadow, Mass.) served up a corner kick from the right side of the field. Mariah Kaiser (Portsmouth, R.I.) came through the left side and headed the goal into the right corner of the net for her fifth score of the year.

The Hawks added another score in the 34th minute, with Kaiser making her way down the right sideline and towards the net. She put up a shot that was saved by Colonel keeper Christina Chiofalo (Smithtown, N.Y.), but Valenti found the loose ball and knocked in her ninth score of the season.

The Hawk offense kept Curry busy throughout the first half, outshooting the Colonels 20-1.

In the second half, the Hawks poured on the offense, converting four goals on 19 shots. Samantha Woznicki (Bristol, Conn.) got things started in the 52nd minute. Casey found Woznicki with a corner kick on the right side of the box. Woznicki put up a shot that was blocked by Colonel defender Abigail Ford (Halifax, Mass.). Fortunately for Woznicki, the ball bounced right back to her and she was able to bury a shot into the left corner.

In the 66th minute, Jordyn Labriola (Hopkinton, Mass.) scored twice in 20 seconds for RWU. Her first tally came off of a touch pass from Missy Andrade (Glastonbury, Conn.) between a couple of Curry defenders. Labriola tapped a shot to the right side to make it a 4-0 game. She would then score 20 seconds later off of a pass from Valenti, deflecting it off of a Curry back and into the goal.

Haley Carignan (Scarborough, Maine) notched the final score for RWU in the 86th minute, with Labriola passing across the box to Maddie Neri (Upton, Mass.), who tapped it back to Carignan for the goal.

Sydney Martin (Scarborough, Maine) earned the win for RWU, playing the first half, while Alexis Wright played in net for the second period. Chiofalo had ten saves for the Colonels in the loss.
