Women's Soccer Downs CCC Opponent Nichols College, 3-0

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's soccer team defeated Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Nichols College, 3-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Walter M. Katz Field. With the win the Colonels improve to 8-1 overall and 2-1 in the CCC.  The Bison fell to 1-6-1 overall and 0-3 in the CCC.

The Colonels took an early two goal lead in the first half.  Stats in the first 45 minutes were pretty even despite Curry controlling the play.  The Colonels outshot the Bison just 7-6 with both teams landing six on net.  Nichols starting keeper Kelly English (Mansfield, Mass.) played in the first 29:36 and made three stops while allowing both goals.  Bison netminder Brook Downey (Middleboro, Mass.) played for 15:24 minutes making just one save.  Curry's goalkeeper Morgan Stott (Dartmouth, Mass.) was solid in net making six saves.  The Colonels got on the board at 27:37 when Briana Fitzsimmons (East Haven, Conn.) sent Korinna Tsonis (Dartmouth, Mass.) a through pass.  Tsonis one-timed it over the head of Downey.  Just 1:34 later Tsonis netted her second for the team's 2-0 lead.  Amanda Crisfulla (Raynham, Mass.) had a corner kick opportunity that landed at the feet of Kendall Fox (Dartmouth, Mass.).  Fox sent the ball to the head of Tsonis who stuck it into the back of the net.

Curry controlled the final stanza leading in all statistical categories. They held a large margin in shots at 15-5.  Six of those shots were on net saved by Downey.  Nichols had four of their strikes on net but Stott made all four saves giving her a fifth shutout on the season.  The Colonels got one more goal for the 3-0 victory.  Mary Blythe (Montpelier, Vt.) took a shot that rebounded off of Downey.  She collected the ball and gave a quick pass to Samantha McGrath (Carver, Mass.) for her first goal of the season. 

The Colonels finished with 22 shots and nine corner kicks.  The Bison finished with 11 shots and two corner kicks.

Stott made 10 saves in net for the win.  English made three stops and Downey seven in the loss. 

Curry returns to action on Tuesday, September 29 when they travel to Newbury College in an 8:00 p.m. game start.  Nichols returns to action when they travel to Albertus Magnus on September 28 in a 4:00 p.m. start.
