Women's Soccer Earns First Win of the Season Defeating Johnson State, 4-1

MILTON, Mass. – Curry College defeated visiting Johnson State, 4-1, on Tuesday evening at the Walter M. Katz Field.  With the win the Colonels improve to 1-0 overall while the Badgers fall to 0-1 on the season.

Junior Kaitlyn Lima (New Bedford, Mass.) got the Colonels on the board at the 17:57 minute-mark of the opening frame.  Lima dribbled the ball through the Badgers defense and one-timed it into the back of the net.  Curry held just a slight lead in shots at 8-3. Both netminders came up with three saves with the first half ending on a 1-0 advantage by the home team.

The Colonels came out strong in the second half putting a lot more pressure on the Badgers defense and sophomore goalkeeper Nichole Weeks (Barre, Vt.).  Curry netted three goals during the 45 minute stanza.  Curry outshot Johnson State, 15-3.  Junior Morgan Stott (Dartmouth, Mass.) stopped all three of the Badgers shots on net.

Senior Taylor Evans (Middleton, Mass.) extended the Colonel lead early into the second half.  Evans took a strike outside the 18-yard box that sailed over the head of Weeks.  Just 4:14 minutes later Curry went up 3-0 after junior Kelly Parker (Branford, Conn.) sent a cross to Korinna Tsonis (Dartmouth, Mass.) for her first goal of the season.  Johnson State's Kylie Aither (Hyde Park, Vt.) ended Stotts' chance of a shutout when she went one-on-one with the Colonels netminder and shot the ball into the corner of the net.  Curry added one more before the final whistle blew for the 4-1 victory off a senior Kelsey O'Brien (Danvers, Mass.) tally on an assist by sophomore Amanda Crisfulla (So. Raynham, Mass.).

The Colonels finished with 23 shots and six corner kicks.  The Badgers had six shots and five corners.

Stott earned the win in net with four saves.  Weeks took the loss in net for Johnson State coming up with nine stops.

Curry returns to action on Thursday, September 3 when they travel to Mount Ida College at 7:00 p.m.  Johnson State travels to Norwich University for the NU Kickoff Tournament on Saturday, September 5 for a 4:30 p.m. game start against the host team.
