Women's Soccer Dominates Visiting Mass. Maritime, 9-0

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's soccer team defeated Mass. Maritime Academy, 9-0, on Tuesday night at the Walter M. Katz Field. With the win the Colonels improved to 11-4 overall while the Bucaneers fell to 3-7-3 on the season.

Curry had seven different goal scorers throughout the game.  The Colonels were led by junior Taylor Evans (Middleton, Mass.) who finished with six points on two tallies and two helpers.  Freshman Ashley Bottis (Middleton, Mass.) earned four points netting two.  Sophomores Kaitlyn Lima (New Bedford, Mass.) and Kelly Parker (Branford, Conn.) followed behind earning three points on a goal and an assist each.  Curry also got scores from seniors Meredith Keith (San Jose, Calif.) and Mary Blythe (Montpelier, Vt.) and freshman Amanda Crisfulla (Raynham, Mass.). 

The Colonels put up three in the first 10 minutes of the opening frame.  Keith got the Colonels on the board just 1:24 into the match followed by Evans just two minutes later.  At the 10:12 minute mark Evans netted her second unassisted.  Curry controlled most of the remainder of the half and with just 43 seconds left, took a 4-0 lead heading into intermission.  Crisfulla collected a rebound off of the Bucaneers junior goaltender junior Katie Levesque (Wilmot, N.H.) and one-timed it into the back of the net. 

Curry outshot Mass. Maritime 18-3 in the frame Hunt made nine saves in 45 minutes of play before giving way to freshman goaltender Stephanie Hunt (Brookfield, Conn.) who played in net for the second half.  Sophomore netminder Morgan Stott (Dartmouth, Mass.) stopped two of the Bucaneers three shots for the Colonels.

Curry's scoring frenzy continued as they went on to net five more over the final 45 minutes of the game.  Bottis was the first to score 5:13 in and Lima just 1:06 later.  Bottis struck again for her second on the night and Parker earned her first just three minutes later.  The score remained 8-0 until the 80th minute when Hunt caused a foul in the 18-yard box giving the Colonels a penalty kick.  Blythe was awarded the shot earning her first tally of the year and helping her team to a 9-0 final.

The Colonels finished with 27-6 advantage in shots and a 4-1 lead in corner kicks. 

Stott made four saves in net for the win in 70:59 minutes and earned her eighth shutout on the season.  Evans replaced Stott in goal making one stop in 19:01 minutes.  Levesque had nine saves allowing four goals in the loss.  Hunt made two stops allowing five. 

Curry returns to action on Saturday, October 18 when they host Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Gordon in an 11:00 a.m. game start.  Mass. Maritime also plays on Saturday, October 18 when they travel to LEC opponent Bridgewater State in a 12:00 p.m. start.
