Women's Soccer Edges Emmanuel, 2-1

BOSTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Curry College in non-conference action Thursday evening at Roberto Clemente Field. The Saints drop to 3-4 on the year while the win lifts the Colonels to 5-1 overall.

Following 23 minutes of back and forth scoreless action, Curry got on the board first as sophomore forward Kaitlyn Lima (New Bedford, Mass.) buried a shot from the left side of the pitch with the help of a seamless feed from junior forward Taylor Evans (Middleton, Mass.) to make it 1-0. The goal was Lima's seventh of the year.

Curry would keep the pressure on the remainder of the opening half, outshooting the Saints 8-1 but freshman goalkeeper Victoria LaRoche (Hudson, N.H.) came up with three first-half saves to keep the score at 1-0 heading into the intermission.

The Colonels made it 2-0 during the 56th minute of play as Evans found the back of the net for her third marker of the season, assisted by sophomore forward Kelly Parker (Branford, Conn.).

As Curry began to slow the pace of play down, Emmanuel continued to press in search of their first goal of the night. The Saints got several good scoring opportunities late in the contest including a left-footed strike by senior forward Kelsie Dumas (Dalton, Mass.) that ricocheted off the crossbar back into the box. On the ensuing play, junior forward Hannah Konicki (Milford, Conn.) just missed the rebound, as her shot sailed wide of the right hand post by inches.

Emmanuel played more direct down the stretch, outshooting the Colonels 12-7 in the second half and finally found the scoring column as Dumas beat sophomore goalie Morgan Stott (Dartmouth, Mass.) with only 1:01 remaining in the contest to cut the score to 2-1. Senior forward Amanda Roberts (Hudson, N.H.) was credited with an assist on the goal but it was all EC could muster up as Curry held on for the 2-1 victory.

Stott recorded seven saves in the win while LaRoche ended her evening with five saves before giving way to senior keeper Abaigeal Thivierge (Bennington, Vt.) for the final 28 minutes of play.

Curry returns to action on Saturday when they host Wentworth Institute of Technology at 6:00 PM in CCC action while the Saints play the same day, travelling to Johnson & Wales University for a 1:00 PM GNAC tilt. (Game Recap Courtesy of Emmanuel Sports Information)
