Lima Nets a Hat Trick as Women's Soccer Earns First Conference Win of the Season With a 3-2 Victory Over Salve Regina

MILTON, Mass. – Freshman Kaitlyn Lima (New Bedford, Mass.) scored a hat trick to help lead the Curry College women's soccer team to its first Commonwealth Coast Conference win of the season defeating Salve Regina, 3-2, on Saturday evening.  With the win the Colonels improve to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the CCC.  The Seahawks fell to 0-5-1 and 0-1 in the CCC in the loss.

The Colonels controlled most of the first half outshooting the Seahawks 11-8 and netting two goals to the visitor's one.  Lima tallied both goals one unassisted and the other on a pass from senior Brittney McLaughlin (Wilmington, Mass.).  Lima came off the bench at the 25:15 minute mark and just two minutes later put the Colonels on the board when McLaughlin dribbled the ball down the side of the field and made a quick pass to Lima who one-timed it past the Seahawks' freshman netminder Carly Montgomery (Malverne, N.Y.).  Salve answered back just minutes later to tie the score at one apiece.  Senior Erin McCullough (Ludlow, Mass.) found herself behind a Curry defender with the ball at her feet and turned and shot top shelf past senior goaltender Hayley Lorge (Beverly, Mass.).  Lima earned her second after she maneuvered around a Seahawk player at the top of the 18-yard box and hit the back of the corner of the net.

The teams battled back and forth until Lima scored her third goal of the night for a hat trick and the eventual game-winner at 65:55 showing on the clock.  Lima took a shot from the 25-yard line that sailed over the head of Salve's goalkeeper.  The Seahawks did not give up however and brought the game back within two with just 11:33 left to play.  McCullough tallied her second of the night, this time assisted by sophomore Maggie Borowicz (West Point, N.Y.).  The scoring frenzy would end there though as Curry would go on to win 3-2.

The Colonels finished with 25 shots, seven fouls and three corner kicks. The Seahawks finished with 16 shots, nine fouls, and two corner kicks.

Lorge finished with four stops in goal for the win.  For Salve, Montgomery made 13 saves in net taking the loss.

Curry returns to action on Thursday, September 19 when they host Emmanuel College at 7:00 p.m.  Salve hosts Wesleyan on Wednesday, September 18 in a 4:30 p.m. game start.
