Women's Soccer Battles Colby-Sawyer to a 1-1 Double Overtime Tie

NEW LONDON, N.H. – Colby-Sawyer College and Curry College played to a 1-1 tie in a nonconference women’s soccer game on a rain soaked Kelsey Field, Wednesday afternoon.

Colby-Sawyer’s record goes to 8-2-3, while Curry goes to 5-7-2.

The visitors took a quick lead two minutes into the contest. After Curry was awarded a corner kick, sophomore Deanna McMahon (Hanover, Mass.) sent a bending ball into the six-yard box where junior teammate Alayna Coakley (Grafton, Mass.) corralled the ball then found the back of the net. The goal was Coakley’s fourth of the season.

Trailing 1-0 at the half, Colby-Sawyer came out aggressively and outshot Curry 9-3 in the second frame. The team found the equalizer in the 84th minute after a two-on-one break yielded a scoring chance.

Senior Ashley Reis (Stowe, Vt.) dribbled down the left flank and drew the Curry defender, leaving freshman teammate Tallon Tomasi (Berkshire, Vt.) by herself. Tomasi received a pass in the six-yard box and beat the goalie to the right side.

The Chargers continued their upbeat play in the first overtime period and had three scoring chances, but the Curry keeper, Samantha Hardy (Pepperell, Mass.), made all three saves.

Curry controlled play for most of the second overtime and took three shots, making the Colby-Sawyer goalie Shay Spencer (Natick, Mass.) make two saves.

Colby-Sawyer held a 20-10 edge in shots for the game.

Spencer finished the game with four saves, while Curry keeper Hardy had an impressive 13 stops.

The Chargers resume North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play on Saturday when they host Lyndon at 1:00 pm.  Curry also returns to conference action on Saturday with a 12:30 pm Commonwealth Coast Conference road contest at Eastern Nazarene. (Game Recap Courtesy of Colby-Sawyer Sports Information)
