Women's Soccer Falls to Berry College, 1-0, in Overtime

MILTON, Mass.- Berry College defeated Curry College, 1-0 in overtime, in non-conference women's soccer action on Tuesday in Milton.  With the win, the Vikings improve to 7-2-1 overall.  The Colonels fell to 2-11 overall.

The Colonels and Vikings battled to a scoreless first half.  Curry’s defense along with junior goalkeeper Samantha Hardy (Pepperell, Mass.) played a solid 45 minutes.  Berry outshot Curry 8-2, with Hardy making six saves.  The Viking’s goalkeeper, freshman Brooke Clement (Lawrenceville, Ga.) saw just one shot on net.  Berry ended the half with three corners and four fouls.  Curry ended with no corners and six fouls. 

The Vikings controlled most of the second frame, again outshooting the Colonels.   Berry had 17 shots to Curry’s four.   Sophomore Hayley Lorge (Beverly, Mass.) came in net for Hardy to play the second half and made 12 outstanding saves to keep the Vikings scoreless.  The Colonels had four shots, two that landed on net.  Neither team could find the back of the goal in regulation so the two headed into overtime.

It didn’t take long in the sudden death overtime for Berry to get the win.  They had three shots in the first two minutes of OT with the final one being the game-winner.  Just 2:06 into the overtime, senior Leah Hatheway (Coronado, Calif) found a loose ball in front of the net and one-timed it past Lorge.

Berry finished with 28 total shots, 21 on goal, nine fouls and seven corner kicks.  Curry finished with six shots, three on goal, 11 fouls and one corner kick.

Clement, who made three saves, earned the shutout and win in net for the Vikings. Hardy finished with six saves in 45 minutes of play.  Lorge finished with 14 saves in 47:06 minutes of play in the loss.

The Colonels will host Berry on Tuesday, October 11, for a 4:00 p.m. contest. Berry hosts Milligan Saturday, October 15, for a 4:00 p.m. game start.
