Women's Soccer Blanked, 2-0, by Visiting CCC Foe Nichols

MILTON, Mass.- Nichols College defeated Curry College, 2-0, in Commonwealth Coast Conference women's soccer action on Saturday in Milton.  With the win, the Bison improve to 4-5-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the CCC.  The Colonels fell to 2-10 overall and 0-5 in the CCC.

The Bison were the first to get on the board in the opening frame.  At the19:49 minute mark, junior Gina Williamson (Westfield, Mass.) scored the first and only goal of the half off an assist from senior Maria DiTommaso (Rindge, N.H.).  Nichols held a slight advantage in shots over Curry, 8-5.  The Colonels only landed two of their five shots on net with junior Maureen Lynch (Holbrook, Mass.) making two saves. Junior goalkeeper Samantha Hardy (Pepperell, Mass.) made six saves for the Colonels. 

Nichols ended the half with eight shots, seven on net, six fouls, and two corners.  Curry ended with five shots, two on net, six fouls and just one corner.

Nichols again outshot the Colonels in the second, but by just two, 8-6.  Six of their shots made it on net and despite solid play between the pipes by Hardy; they were able to score one more for the 2-0 shutout.  DiTommaso scored an unassisted goal with 18:19 left to play.  The Colonels had their opportunities on offense but Lynch, in net for Nichols, kept Curry scoreless.  


Nichols finished with 16 total shots, 13 on goal, 13 fouls and four corner kicks.  Curry finished with 14 shots, five on goal, eight fouls and two corner kicks.

Lynch, who made five saves, earned the shutout and win in net for the Bison. Hardy finished with 11 saves in the loss.

The Colonels will host Berry on Tuesday, October 11, for a 4:00 p.m. contest. Nichols hosts Salve Regina in a Commonwealth Coast Conference match on Tuesday, October 11, for a 3:30 p.m. game start.
