Women's Soccer Tripped Up at Roger Williams, 2-0

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women’s Soccer team snapped a three-game losing streak with a 2-0 victory over Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Curry College Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Hawks move back to .500 at 5-5-1 overall and 3-1-0 in the conference. Curry falls to 1-9-0 on the season and still in search of the team’s first CCC win on the year (0-4-0).

Roger Williams reached the scoreboard first in the 15th minute, with Katie Fusaro (Hopkinton, Mass.) firing a shot off of a Tory Benoit (Shrewsbury, Mass.) cross from the left side. Fusaro took the ball in the middle and put one on net to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead.

RWU almost put another goal on the board just before the end of the half, with Fusaro bearing down on Colonel keeper Samantha Hardy (Pepperell, Mass.) on a breakaway. However Hardy made a great save on Fusaro’s shot, making a one-handed save to keep the deficit at one.

The Hawks added their second goal of the contest in the 51st minute, with Maddy Howard (Medfield, Mass.) sending a short pass to Kristen Tetreault (Tolland, Conn.) in the middle for a goal to make it 2-0 RWU.

Curry was unable to muster anything offensively in the period, being held without a single shot in the second half.

Stephanie Jaques (Burlington, Vt.) made three saves for the Hawks, earning her third shutout of the year. Hardy finished with six stops for Curry in the loss, with Haley Lorge (Beverly, Mass.) making a save in 14:37 of action.

Roger Williams travels to Wesleyan on Wednesday, while Curry takes on Mass. Maritime on Tuesday. (Game Recap Courtesy of Roger Williams Sports Information)
