Women's Soccer Blanked by Visiting Eastern Nazarene, 5-0

MILTON, Mass.- Eastern Nazarene  defeated Curry College, 5-0, in Commonwealth Coast Conference women's soccer action on Saturday in Milton.  With the win, the Lions improve to 7-4 overall and 1-2 in the CCC.  The Colonels fell to 1-7 overall and 0-3 in the CCC.

The Lions were in control of the entire first half, outshooting the Colonels 19-2, with 15 of those shots landing on net.  Senior Kara Webber (Marshfield, Mass.) and freshman Juliana Speno (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) combined for four out of their team’s five goals and two assists.  Both players had six points apiece.  Webbers’ first goal came 14:24 minutes into the frame, when Speno sent her a through pass for a one-touch goal.  Just 3:36 minutes later Speno got her first goal on the day.  Webber crossed the ball from the corner of the sideline and Speno collected it inside the box for the goal.  Eastern Nazarene got one more goal before the half ended to take a 3-0 lead heading into half-time.  Speno scored her second goal when she received a pass at the 30 yard line from teammate, freshman Ana Maleesa Santos (Colonie, N.Y.), and dribbled it past the Curry defenders and junior goalkeeper Samantha Hardy (Pepperell, Mass.). 

ENC ended the half with 19 shots, 15 on net, three fouls, three corners and senior goalkeeper Alexendra Polcari (Marshfield, Mass.) made just one save.  Curry ended with two shots, one on net, three fouls and Hardy made 12 saves. 

The second half wasn’t much different than the first with the Lions outshooting the Colonels 13-3.  Eastern Nazarene also got two more scores for their 5-0 shutout and first conference win of the season.  Despite Curry’s three shots on net, they couldn’t find a way to score.  The Colonels held the Lions off for the first 34:22 minutes of the second half, but Eastern Nazarene was able to tally two more scores before the end of the game.  With just over 10 minutes to play Webber got her second goal off an assist by freshman Cara Reiley (North Andover, Mass.).  The final score and game-winner came with just 4:22 left to play.  Santos scored from the top of the 18 yard-box off a pass from freshman Samantha Williams (Forest Hill, Md.). 

The Lions finished with 32 total shots, 25 on goal, 10 fouls and eight corner kicks.  The Colonels finished with five shots, four on goal, six fouls and just one corner kick. 

Polcari, who made 4 saves, earned the win in net for the Lions. Hardy finished with 20 saves in the loss.

The Colonels will travel to Fitchburg State on Tuesday, September 27, for a 7:00 p.m. contest. Eastern Nazarene travels to Becker College on Monday, September 26, also for a 7:00 p.m. game start.
