Women's Soccer Shut Out by Visiting Colby-Sawyer College, 3-0

MILTON, Mass.- Colby-Sawyer  defeated Curry College, 3-0, in non-conference women's soccer action on Tuesday in Milton.  With the win, the Chargers improve to 5-3 overall.  The Colonels fell to 1-6 overall.

Curry and Colby-Sawyer battled the first half to a 0-0 tie. The Chargers controlled most of the half outshooting the Colonels 13-5.  Curry’s goaltender, sophomore Hayley Lorge (Beverly, Mass.) kept Colby-Sawyer scoreless making 11 saves.  The Charger’s goaltender, junior Shalyn Spencer (Natick, Mass.) saw just three shots on net.

The Chargers started to pressure the Colonels right off the whistle in the start of the second frame.  Lorge made some great saves to try and keep the score at zero apiece, but 10:49 into the half Colby-Sawyer got their first goal of the evening.  The Chargers’ sophomore Lauren Bernard (Manchester, N.H) scored off an assist from sophomore Adrienne Bender (Wakefield, R.I.).  Colby-Sawyer kept the pressure on the Curry defense and continued to outshoot the Colonels.  The Chargers got their second score at the 12:41 mark when junior Sarah Lavalle (Newton, Mass.) sent a through pass to teammate freshman Michelle Upham (Chelsea, Vt.) who beat the Colonels defense and Lorge for the team’s second goal.  It seemed as though Colby-Sawyer would walk away with the 2-0 win but they weren’t finished yet.  Curry committed a foul with just 1:14 left to play and sophomore Stephanie Huntley (Woodbury, Conn.) took the free kick which landed right over Lorge’s head into the back of the net for the game-winner.

Colby-Sawyer ended with 27 total shots, and four corner kicks.  Curry finished with 11 shots, three corner kicks.

Spencer, who made 7 saves, earned the win in net for the Chargers. Lorge finished with 16 saves in the loss.

The Colonels will host Eastern Nazarene on Saturday, September 24, for a 10:00 a.m. contest. Colby-Sawyer travels to Green Mountain College on Saturday, September 24 for a 4:00 p.m. game start.
