MILTON, Mass.- Curry College defeated Framingham State, 4-2, in non-conference women's soccer action on Wednesday in Milton. With the win, the Colonels improve to 1-2 overall. The Rams even their record at 1-1 overall.
Curry got on the board first at the 12:47 mark when sophomore Brittany McLaughlin (Wilminghton, Mass.) received a through pass from junior Kelly Howe (Walton, Neb.). Framingham tied the game just five minutes later when freshman Isabella DeSouza (Framingham, Mass.) beat the a Colonel defender for a 1v1 with Curry's junior goaltender Samantha Hardy (Pepperell, Mass.). Hardy made three great saves in a row before Curry came back to go ahead by one at the 22:20 mark when senior Suzanne Jensen (Framingham, Mass.) scored off a corner kick. The Rams tied the game once again on a goal by freshman Marisa Parent (Revere, Mass). Sophomore Kayla Austin (Winchester, Mass.) sent a through ball to Parent who beat Hardy for their team's second goal of the game. The teams would head into the break with a 2-2 tie.
Framingham outshot the Colonels’ 14-9. Hardy made eight saves for Curry, while the Ram's freshman goaltender McKenzie Vershon (Chicopee, Mass.) made five.
Framingham tied the game for its' third time 26:21 minutes into the second half off a goal by junior Taylor Ezold (Westfield, Mass.). Ezold shot from outside the 18 yard box that sailed over Hardy's head. The goal would be their final of the game. Junior Lindsay Trudeau (Storrs, Conn.) scored the game-winner four minutes later when McLaughlin collected a loose ball infront of the net and passed it to Trudeau who was wide open for the score. The Rams controlled the rest of the half outshooting the Colonels for a total of 24-5, but Hardy made 11 saves alone to hold on for the win for her team's first of the season. Framingham had one last chance with just six minutes left to play when a Curry defender fouled a Rams player in the box. Framinghams' Austin was awarded a penalty kick that would have tied the game and possibly send it into overtime, but she shot the ball wide.
Framingham's total shots of the game were 38 compared to Curry's 14. Vershon made seven saves in the loss. Hardy had a career-high 19 saves for her first win of the season.
The Colonels will travel to the University of New England on Saturday, September 10, for a 1:00 p.m. contest. Framingham travels to Southern Maine on September 10 with a 12:00 p.m. game start.
