PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Curry College picked up its first win of the season, defeating Rhode Island College 16-6 in a non-conference collegiate women's lacrosse match Monday afternoon at Alumni Stadium.
With the win, the Colonels improve to an overall record of 1-2 on the young season.
The Colonels put the pressure on from the first whistle, with Sarah Kelly starting the offensive onslaught with the first goal just 1:43 into the game, assisted on the score by Natalie Keenan. Later in the quarter, Kelly scored again to jumpstart a four-goal stretch for Curry with scores from Samantha Sprissler, a third from Kelly, and another from Keenan. Keenan scored again with 14 seconds left to send the visitors to the second quarter with a 6-2 advantage.
The Colonels carried the offensive momentum to the next period, scoring six straight to take an oppressive 12-2 lead over the Anchorwomen. Brooke Barry started the assault, followed by a pair of goals each from Keenan and Grace Grosso, with Nicole Michael also scoring on a free position shot.
Despite pumping the breaks in the second half, the Colonels still outscored their opponent by a margin of 4-2 with Sprissler scoring her second goal of the game in the third quarter, and Keenan, Barry, and Grosso tacking on in the final period.
Keenan finished with an impressive statline of five goals and two assists while Kelly and Grosso joined her in the hat-trick club with three goals apiece. Sprissler and Barry had two each while Michael added one and a pair of assists.
Zoe Ratcliffe and Alexa Puopolo each played a half in goal for the Colonels, combining for six saves in the blowout win.
