Former Colonelsâ?? Standout Hansbury Named As Berlin Open Tournament MVP

MILTON, Mass. – Former Curry College standout Ashley Hansbury recently played for the USA Athletes International (USAAI) team in the USA International Lacrosse Tournament in Berlin and Prague. Hansbury, the first women’s lacrosse player from Curry to travel overseas after graduation to play, was named as the Berlin Open Tournament Most Valuable Player.

On Day One of the Berlin Round Robin Open, her team opened against the U19 German National squad. USAAI won that game handily, 17-5, with Hansbury collecting five points on four goals and one assist. Their next game was against another German team named the “Golden Girls.” USAAI posted an 11-0 shutout in that contest with Hansbury netting three goals. In the last round-robin game, USAAI played the Irish Development team and was once again victorious, 12-3. Hansbury scored twice and added an assist.

On the second day of the placement round, USAAI played Team BL Sud. The game was more tightly-contested, but they came away with an 11-6 win with Hansbury netting three more goals.  The final game of the second day was a lopsided 24-3 win against another USA team, “The Global Stars.” This was Hansbury’s second five-point game (four goals, one assist) of the tourney.

On the final day of competition, USAAI lost a tough game to the “Global Players,” a team made up of players from all over the country, 11-10. Hansbury saved her best performance for her final game, with six goals and one assist for seven total points. Her team finished in second place and she was subsequently named as Tournament MVP. She finished with an impressive 22 goals and four assists for 26 total points.
