Hansbury Becomes NCAA Division III All-Time Career Points Leader as Women's Lacrosse Defeats Regis, 22-1

MILTON, Mass. – Senior Ashley Hansbury (Chelmsford, MA) broke the NCAA Division III All-Time Scoring Career Leader record today as Curry defeated Regis College 22-1 in TCCC action.  With the win the Colonels improve to 11-1 overall and 6-1 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference. With the loss, the Pride falls to 2-9 overall and 0-6 in the TCCC.

Curry scored their first goal of the game just 43 seconds into the first half on a goal by Hansbury, assisted by sophomore Ana Bottary (Hull, MA).  The Colonels then went on to score 12 more before Regis would score their lone goal.  Freshman Andrea Barbosa (Taunton, MA) scored on a free-position shot with just under five minutes remaining in the half.  The Colonels scored two more to take a 14-1 lead into the break.

Hansbury needed 10 points to break the NCAA record and it came at the 16:32 minute mark of the second half when she scored her eighth goal of the game off an assist from teammate senior Jessie Koffman (Andover, MA). The Colonels went on to score eight more goals to finish with a game total of 22.  The team also posted a season high 16 assists.

Curry’s defense had a strong game, allowing just two shots on net.  Junior Michaela Powers (Falmouth, MA) and freshman Mel Brickey (Chelmsford, MA) led the unit with both players having three caused turnovers, two groundballs and two interceptions.

On attack, the Colonels were led by Koffman who finished the game with a career-high nine assists including four goals for 13 points.  Hansbury scored eight goals and chipped in with three assists for 11 points.  Curry had eight other scorers with senior Kelly Champagne (Wolfboro, MA) and freshman Amanda Dunn (Weymouth, MA) scoring two.  Junior Maria Lynch (Billerica, MA), sophomores Bottary and Courtney Shaffer (Hull, MA) and freshmen Brickey, Deanna Monfredo (West Islip, NY) and Bridget McDonald (Longmeadow, MA) each scoring one.

The Colonels outshot the Pride, 40-2 and had 21 draw controls, while the Regis had just four.

The Colonels played all three of their goalies with Lynch earning her 11th win playing in 30 minutes and making one save, allowing one goal.  Senior Kate Noe (Greenwich, CT) played for 16:32 minutes and sophomore Emily LeBlanc (Abington, MA) made one save in 13:28 minutes.  Regis played two goalies with sophomore Meghan Ryan (Stow, MA) playing in 11:52 minutes, making two stops and allowing eight goals.  Senior Alycia Murphy (Danvers, MA) suffered the loss playing in 48:08 minutes, allowing 14 goals and making eight saves.

The Colonels will host the University of New England for their senior night on Tuesday, April 12 at 6:30pm. Regis will host Salve Regina on April 12 for 7:00 p.m. game start.
