Canton, MA - The Curry Women's Hockey team defeated UNE on Saturday, 3-2 in overtime. The Colonels are now 4-1-1 on the season and 2-1-1 in CNE play. The Nor'easters are now 2-4-0 and 1-3-0.
After a very quick first period that featured multiple stretches with little action, the two teams picked up the pace in the second period. The Colonels struck first at the halfway point of the period, scoring on a Bella Mardesich goal assisted by Megan Sawatzky. But just about four minutes later the Nor'easters capitalized on the power play, scoring an equalizer just seconds into their advantage.
The third period was almost a carbon copy of the second, as Mardesich scored nearly halfway through the period, and then UNE scored second into a power play. The two teams would then head to OT, where Darby Marshall found Kylie Harrison for a game-winner.
The Colonels controlled the game, outshooting UNE 38-29, and winning 43 of 61 faceoffs. Goalie Coriann Hoag stopped 27 of the 29 shots she faced.
