Canton, MA - The Curry Women's Hockey team hosted their first ever home playoff game, and they rose to the occasion, easily defeating UNE 5-0. The Colonels move to 12-13-1 on the season, while the Nor'easters see their season end at 13-13-1.
It didn't take long for the Colonels to jump ahead, as Hannah Berkowitz scored just 30 seconds into the game. The Colonels then doubled their lead to two midway through the period on a Bella Mardesich goal. The Colonels went into the first intermission feeling comfortable with their 2-0 lead.
The second period saw the Colonels continue to add on their lead over the Nor'easters. With just 20 seconds left in the period it was Berkowitz again to make it 3-0. The Colonels would add two more goals in the third period. First it was Danielle Reid scoring her 19th goal of the season, and in the eighth consecutive game. Then Grayson Goolgasian added a goal to her three assists.
Sarah Kerr stopped all 21 shots she faced, and would have been credited for the shutout had she not stepped aside for the final 90 seconds of the game. She was replaced by senior goalie Vivi Helquist, much to the delight of the bench and the crowd. Helquist stopped the only shot she faced.
Up Next - The Colonels will look to win their first conference championship next Saturday, when they travel to Endicott for a 3pm game.
