West Springfield, MA - The Curry Women's Hockey team fell on the road to Western New England on Friday. The Golden Bears beat the Colonels 3-2 in overtime to drop the Colonels to 5-12-1 on the season, and 4-8-0 in CNE play. The Golden Bears are now 11-7-1 and 5-6-1.

The lone goal of the first period came from Tommi Nash, as she put the Colonels ahead less than five minutes into the game. That goal was assisted by Anna Kahl and Hannah Berkowitz. That goal would stand until a couple minutes into the second period when WNE would tie things up. The two team would then go over 30 minute without a goal, with the next strike coming from Curry with just five minutes left in the game. Megan Sawatzky put home a power play goal, assisted by Margot Oxman and Anna Kahl. But the lead would last less than two minutes, as the Golden Bears found an equalizer. The game would go to OT, but due to two penalties in the final two minutes of regulation, the Colonels began the extra period on a 5-3 kill. They were able to kill the first penalty, but would give up a five on four goal 40 seconds into OT.

In a rarity on the season, the Colonels lost the faceoff battle, although only slightly, as WNE won 23 faceoffs to Curry's 22. Despite that, both Danielle Reid and Hannah Berkowitz were strong on the draw, each winning seven, and doing so at a better than 67% rate. The Colonels outshot the Golden Bears 33 to 27.

Curry goalie Coriann Hoag made 24 saves in net.

Up Next - The two teams will battle again on Saturday, as Curry hosts at 3pm.
