Women’s Ice Hockey Dropped by Salve Regina

CANTON, Mass. - Curry College Women's Ice Hockey fell to Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Salve Regina 4-2 Friday evening at the Canton Ice House.

With the loss, Curry moves forward with an overall record of 3-4-2 and 1-2-2 in the CCC

The Colonels struck first in the CCC matchup at the Canton Ice House Friday evening. Curry freshman defenseman Megan Sawatzky (Lemont, Ill.) slipped a shot past Salve's Elee Kopecky from the blue line to put the Colonels up 1-0 with under 12 minutes remaining in the first period. Tommi Nash (Point Pleasant, N.J.) and Hannah Berkowitz (Mattawan, Mich.) were credited with assists on the opening goal. 

The visiting Seahawks equalized the contest just over a minute into the second period, Morgan Peritz finding the back of the net past Curry's sophomore goaltender Anna Langton (Zimmerman, Minn.).

Curry College regained the lead midway through the second period on a Margot Oxman (Lower Merion, Pa.) shot zipping over the right shoulder pads of Kopecky and into the back of the net. Oxman's goal was assisted by Seneca Urban (Superior, Colo.) and Ali Olorenshaw (Saskatoon, Sask.). 

With just over 11 minutes remaining in regulation, Salve Regina tied the contest on a Samantha McKenzie goal assisted by Riley Esposito and Tori Amaral. Eight minutes later, the visiting Seahawks took over the lead on an unassisted goal by senior defenseman Maddie Cox. Salve Regina would notch their final goal with under 30 seconds on the clock, closing out the conference matchup by a final score of 4-2 in favor of the visiting Seahawks. 

Curry's sophomore netminder Anna Langton turned aside 20 of the 24 shots she faced in the Commonwealth Coast Conference loss at home.

Next up for the Colonels, they continue CCC action Saturday evening as they travel to face the Salve Regina Seahawks in Newport, RI at 7 PM.
