Women's Ice Hockey Knocks Off Plymouth State

CANTON, Mass. - The Curry College women's ice hockey team defeated Plymouth State University 2-1 in its home opener Friday night in non-conference action at the Canton Ice House.

With the victory, Curry improves to 2-0-0 overall on the season.

Plymouth State opened the scoring with 2:57 to play in the first period when Robyn Grant netted a shorthanded tally to go ahead 1-0.

The Panther advantage was short-lived however, as Colonel sophomore Mckenzie Broderick (Milford, Conn.) wristed home her first collegiate goal from the left point just 98 seconds later. Sophomore Kalie Gruhlke (Fall Creek, Wis.) and freshman Tommi Nash (Point Pleasant, N.J.) earned assists on the tally.

The game remained tied until midway through the third period, when sophomore Grayson Goolgasian (Johnston, R.I.) buried a power play goal that proved to be the game winner. Goolgasian scooped up a loose puck off the goalie's pad and deposited it into the yawning cage for her first goal of the season. Earning assists on the play were freshmen Katie Courteau (Warroad, Minn.) and Ella Altiman (Chatham, Ontario).

Curry senior netminder Soleil Archambeault (London, Ontario) turned aside 27 Panther shots for her second win of the season.

Next up for the Colonels, they will take to the road for another contest against Plymouth State on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
