Women's Ice Hockey Tripped Up by Western New England

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Curry College women's ice hockey team was defeated by Western New England University by a final score of 4-1 in their regular season finale Saturday night at the Olympia Ice Center.

With the defeat, Curry closes its regular season with a record of 3-21-1 overall and 1-16-1 in Commonwealth Coast Conference play.

Western New England got on the board three times in the first period to take control of the contest from the outset. Allison Walker found the net twice, with a marker from Alyssa Murphy in between.

Murphy's second goal of the game in the later stages of the second period sent the Golden Bears to the final period ahead by four goals.

For the second game in a row, freshman Danielle Stein (Plainview, N.Y.) scored the lone goal of the game for the Colonels in the third period. The rookie picked up the puck from netminder Vivi Helquist (Proctor, Minn.) and went 200 feet to slide it past the Golden Bear goaltender, ending the shutout. Helquist's assist was the second by a Curry goaltender this season.

Helquist had a strong outing between the pipes despite the loss, making 43 saves for Curry.

Next up for Curry, they will play in the quarterfinals of the CCC Tournament on the road on Wednesday evening.
