Women's Ice Hockey Skates to 2-2 Tie with Salve Regina

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. - The Curry College women's ice hockey team skated to a 2-2 tie with Salve Regina University Monday evening in Commonwealth Coast Conference action at St. George's School.

The tie is the first in Curry women's ice hockey's program history, as the Colonels move to 3-15-1 overall and 1-10-1 in the CCC.

The host Seahawks scored twice in the opening 20 minutes to take a 2-0 lead into the first intermission, but the Colonels refused to go down quietly.

Midway through the second stanza, freshman Ali Olorenshaw (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) cleaned up a Hannah Berkowitz (Mattawan, Mich.) rebound for her fourth goal of the season. Rowan Nasty (Louisville, Colo.) earned a secondary helper on the tally.

With 8:46 remaining in regulation play, rookie Danielle Stein (Plainview, N.Y.) leveled the score at 2-2. Stein took an errant Seahawk pass the other way on a breakaway, pulling the puck on the forehand and shoving it past the outstretched left pad of the Salve Regina goalkeeper to tie the score.

Neither team would find the net for the remainder of regulation, forcing Curry's first ever overtime period. Salve Regina outshot Curry 5-4 in the five-minute extra session, but the two netminders stood tall to maintain the deadlock through to the final horn.

Curry freshman goaltender Anna Langton (Zimmerman, Minn.) was named the game's number-one star with a stellar 35-save outing to help Curry earn the conference point.

Curry will be back in action for a CCC matchup against Suffolk University on the road on Saturday night. Puck drop is slated for 6 p.m.
