Women's Ice Hockey Drops Rivier

CANTON, Mass. - The Curry College women's ice hockey team notched a 3-1 win over Rivier University Friday evening in non-conference action at the Canton Ice House.

With the win, Curry improves to 3-9-0 overall on the season.

Freshman Grayson Goolgasian (Johnston, R.I.) opened the scoring for Curry midway through the second period, roofing a shot past Rivier's goalkeeper from the left wing. McKenzie Broderick (Milford, Conn.) and goaltender Anna Langton (Zimmerman, Minn.) earned their first collegiate points with assists on the tally.

Goolgasian added her second of the evening midway through the third to put Curry ahead 2-0. The rookie stole the puck from a Raider defenseman on the left wing boards before walking to the front and beating the goaltender on the backhand.

Just over two minutes later, Rivier scored their only goal of the evening when Margaret Smith scored on a rebound to cut the deficit to 2-1.

Freshman Jenna Desmarais (Seekonk, Mass.) added a vital insurance marker with 2:41 to play, putting Curry ahead 3-1. Desmarais jumped on a Hannah Berkowitz (Mattawan, Mich.) and backhanded the loose puck into the vacant cage, all but sealing the victory for the hosts. Goolgasian was credited with a secondary assist for her third point of the night.

On top of the second period helper, Langton earned her third win of the season between the pipes, stopping 17 of 18 shots faced.

Curry and Rivier will hit the ice again on Saturday night at Conway Arena in Nashua, N.H. Puck drop is slated for 7 p.m.
