Colonels Post Shutout Victory Over WNE for First Win in Program History

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Curry College women's hockey team shut out Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Western New England at home Saturday evening recording their first win in program history.

With the win, Curry advances to 1-3 overall and 1-1 in the CCC.

The first period went scoreless for both sides despite 25 shots from Curry and 17 for the Golden Bears.

The Colonels struck first in the second period with a goal by forward Grayson Goolgasian (Johnston, R.I.) assisted by Mya Morningstar (Buffalo, Minn.).

Curry adds one to their score in the final moments of the second period with a power-play goal by Asher Printzen (Las Vegas, Nev.) assisted by Paige Rodriguez (Eau Claire, Wis.). This goal sends Curry into the second intermission leading 2-0.

Just a minute into the third period, Curry's Paige Rodriguez (Eau Claire, Wis.) buries one for herself with the assist credited to Asher Printzen (Las Vegas, Nev.) on another power-play advantage. Curry's power-play success knocked down any belief of recovering for the Golden Bears. Curry tallied 2-7 when holding the advantage compared to WNE's 0-4.

The Colonels would hold off any rebuttals by the Golden Bears turning in a 3-0 victory and recording their first win in program history under coach Kelly Rider.

Curry's Anna Langton turned in an outstanding performance recording 20 saves in the shutout victory.

The Colonels head back out on the ice Friday as they host CCC opponent Suffolk University at the Canton Ice House. Puck drop is slated for 7 PM.
