Early Deficit is Too Big for Colonels to Overcome, Fall to Continentals 70-52
MILTON, Mass. – Despite a strong second-half battle, the Curry College women's basketball team fell to visiting Hamilton College, 70–52, on Tuesday night at Katz Gymnasium. The Colonels clawed back from an early deficit but could not overcome Hamilton's efficient shooting and balanced scoring effort.
Hamilton set the tone early, jumping out to a 21–7 lead after the first quarter behind excellent interior play from Taylor Lambo, who scored 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting. The Continentals continued to execute at a high level in the second quarter, shooting 48 percent in the half and taking a 36–20 advantage into the break.
Curry however responded with its strongest stretch of the night in the third quarter, outscoring Hamilton 21–19. Out of the break Lauren Dunn started the offense with back-to-back threes, cutting the Continentals margin to 10. Teammate Lauren Morse would add a triple of her own, before Dunn added another triple, giving her three in the period. Despite the hot shooting from the perimeter, the Colonels didn't get any closer than 9.
Dunn's third quarter burst saw her finish with a team high 11 points and a 3-for-6 effort from deep. Grace Fleuriel also sparked the offense off the bench, delivering 10 points, three rebounds, and two blocks in 23 minutes.
Guard Samantha Conti contributed a steady two-way effort with five points, five rebounds, three assists, and a steal, while forward Kasey Reeves finished with seven points, three boards, and a block.
The Continentals placed four players in double figures, led by Lambo's 14 and supported by Abbey Schwoebel (11 points), Hannah Bernstein (7), and Kendall Harris (8). Hamilton also controlled the interior, posting a 37–34 rebounding edge and outscoring Curry in the paint.
Curry shot 33.3% from the field and an efficient 38.9% from three, while Hamilton countered with a 48.1% overall effort and 14-of-19 from the free-throw line. Turnovers also played a key role, with the Colonels committing 21 turnovers that led to transition opportunities for the visitors.
The Colonels (1–5) will look to regroup after the holiday break as they host their first Conference of New England matchup vs Nichols on Tuesday, December 2nd inside Katz Gymnasium.
